Weekend Round Up #1

So, this is just going to be a weekly round up of things that I did or found exciting over the week. I'm still trying to figure out my schedule and - as I am still on Summer Break for school I have a little time to get a routine going. This one will be a bit short because I didn't realise I was going to do this until this morning... (so prepared, I know.) Anyway, happy weekend to everyone.

1. This awesome video by Anaria. It's a 'rock' cover of Ed Sheeran's 'I See Fire' from The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug. I was impressed by the video, especially the costumes. (I'm a sucker for fun cosplay.)

2. Okay, this came out last week some time but still - the film poster for The Fault in Our Stars. I'm excited for this for two reasons. One, I loved the book (John Green is amazing!). Two, I get to teach this to my students this year. Bring on the sadness and the awesome all rolled into one. DFTBA.

3. A woman from Quebec, Canada spent $30,000 to transform her basement into the Starship Enterprise (Original Series) Read more here. Talk about your dedication.

4. Best pregnancy announcement? I'll let you decide...

5. Normally I would try to round up things that are more geek/nerd related but this is important. A young man (not boy!) died after tackling a suicide bomber who was trying to enter a school. He sacrificed himself to save a school. Read more about it here and here. This young man is a hero and his act bravery is very powerful. Extremely powerful. I really do recommend everyone taking five minutes out of their day to read about Aitzaz Hasan.

  1. I love how crazy and creative pregnancy announcements have become the new "it" thing. Personally I'm all for it. When that time should come that I want to have kids, expect a 2 hour long murder mystery film leading up to the M. Night Shyamalan style twist... I was pregnant THE WHOLE TIME.

  2. Brilliant. I want to see that film now. Hmm but pregnant with what? (This is what happens when you teach Alien to seniors at High School...I almost convinced my seniors that I believed that was how people got pregnant - face hugger style.)

But I agree. I love the announcements and I love the creativity. It brings a little light hearted fun to the whole pregnancy/birth thing.
