I am not dead.
Sorry for the lack of entries and the lack of comments. It's not you, it's me. And, sadly enough, I am being completely serious. I don't really have time to be doing an entry now but it is now or never for a while.
It's getting down to crunch time with exams, credits and lack of essays flying around. I feel as if I were Dorothy stuck in the midst of the tornado and rather than the Wicked Witch it's a clock flying around, constantly ticking its reminder. Plus, a looming deadline for reports.
Add to that trying to think of ways to get the students involved in their own learning and you have a rather rundown and slightly more snarky Jay. Good thing about that is my wit is so dry that most of the time the students don't even realise what I am saying. (Small win for me because they don't need to deal with my snark...well...)
Throw into the mix the stupid World Cup, which means a lot of my students aren't here or, if they are, they are so distracted that they couldn't care less about how diegetic sound can enhance a movie.
I don't know if you've ever tried to explain the importance of camera angles to a bunch of 13-14 year olds. I would compare it to throwing pasta at a wall. Some of it sticks but not enough to make sense of anything.*
I promise I will try to do a more detailed post tomorrow or possibly Friday.
Until then I am retiring to my little corner of school to stare blankly at exams while I try not to cry.
*I apologise for that analogy...it is terrible. What's worse is that I'm giggling at how terrible it is. Oy Vey.
My nerdy little corner of the internet where I try my hand at updating regular like with game, film and television show reviews along with stuff that I find interesting...

In which I prepare for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse...
21st May 2011 - remember this date because, according to Harold Camping and his mathematical prowess, this is when the Rapture begins. You know, the rapture, when those worthy are taken to Heaven and those who aren't spend the next few months on Earth in a state of living hell.
For some reason, I look at this and think ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. Sorry, didn't meant to shout that loud but there are so few options to declare that the zombie apocalypse is coming. And it sounds so much better than the Rapture. And I just have to say, I find it hilarious that there is a Wikipedia entry for this.
Personally, I don't believe in the Rapture. I'm not Religious but I believe in being a good person, but that's not why I'm doing this quick post this evening. I was sitting here, watching Bones, and I got to thinking about what I'd do if I was faced with a zombie horde.
Now, I'm pretty proficient with a shotgun. I grew up on a farm so I learned about these sorts of things. I also know some basic survival stuff so I'd like to think that I'd survive for a little longer than the average blond in the first few minutes of any slasher flick from the 70s or 80s.
I also have semi good knowledge of the area I am in and the areas to avoid when the zombie apocalypse begins. So, when I think about it I feel that I would do quite well for some time. Plus, I've watched Zombieland and Dawn of the Dead (remake) several times so I think I know how these zombies operate. Plus, the list provided in Zombieland is pretty good. Just saying.
Then I realised that there was one skill that I have yet to master...driving a flipping manual car. And I know it isn't a big deal since there are so many automatic vehicles out there but it's one of those things that I feel I should know. I mean, I used to drive the old Massey Ferguson tractor at home and I learned to drive in an '87 Toyota Corolla but when I went for the license for some stupid reason I only used autos. So, my biggest fear of the zombie apocalypse is that the only vehicles I find will all be manual, therefore, my downfall is tied to the gear shaft of a car.
Still I hope that my reasonable intellect (ahem) - pop culture knowledge, would serve me well in surviving the upcomingRapture Zombie Apocalypse.
By the way - I know there is no such thing as zombies...doesn't mean that you shouldn't be prepared.
Basically it's been a strange day...
