Sunday Night Musings for a Monday Morning

I'm writing this post on a Sunday night while watching old episodes of Criminal Minds and wondering, forlornly, were all the guys like Spencer Reid are...but that is besides the point. I'm writing this on a Sunday due to the fact that I have meetings all day after school tomorrow (I think...there always seem to be meetings these days...and I've never really been a "meeting" person because it seems awfully grown up and I don't feel like an adult. Well, not quite.) So I am not sure what time I will be getting home.

Do you ever get the feeling that you have been driving for so long and you suddenly realise that you're not exactly sure where you're supposed to be going? It's not one of those 'oh my gods, what the hell am I doing?' kinds of posts, I promise you that. Rather it's one of those 'it's Sunday night and my brain is racing' posts. You know, that time when you need to be slowly relaxing and getting ready for bed? Well, my mind is suddenly racing and I'm trying everything I can think of to calm it down, hence the rambling writing.

I've had the same trouble since I was a kid. For reasons unknown to me my brain seems to enter a highly active state from about 8ish most nights. Sometimes it only lasts for an hour but other times it seems to go on into the wee hours of the morning. When I was unemployed this was fine. I could work on my writing or watch funny YouTube clips but since I have to get up early in the morning I start to panic and think that I'm never going to get to sleep.

So, basically, my mind hits overdrive and I resemble a small child given far too much red cordial then plied with all the sugar that their little bodies can handle. This often results in a mess of epic proportions and a moody child waking with the world's worst sugar hangover. Don't doubt that these exist because I assure you, they do.

What I am attempting to explain is that I need to sleep but my brain has decided that I'm nocturnal.* Plus, living by myself I have no one to distract me from my crazy mind. And my mind is crazy. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Anyway, at present several thoughts are running through my mind. The most important of which is planning my next trip to America and whether I should return to the UK. (Though the riots have made that seem rather...uh...undesirable at present.) Other thoughts cover grown up things which I don't like thinking about. Top of that list is housebuying...and paying off a student loan.

Note: It is now Monday morning and, although I didn't get much sleep I did manage to get some quality reading done. Good old Stephen King - sometimes a classic horror tale makes the night infinitely more interesting.

I've got to run** to school now but I'm going to post this unedited and mroe than likely uncorrected. To those in the Southern Hemisphere good morning. To those in the Northern Hemisphere hope your Sunday is going okay!

Oh, one last thing...enjoy:

*Not vampire like, thank you very much...
**Well drive if you want to be technical.

  1. That video was a hoot. Blast from the past!

  2. I have been having random 80s themed dance parties in my head and that is the one I keep getting stuck in there.

  3. Seriously, how did we NOT know that George Michael was gay in the 80's? That has to be the gayest video I've ever seen in my life. And no, I'm not saying that in a derogatory way (my brother in law is gay), I'm saying that in a 'wow, George Michael is prettier than his backup dancer girls' kind of way.

And cheers to a good Stephen King book. Can't think of a better way to spend a night! (Well, with a book, anyway)

  4. I know, right. And those moves...well, this video just explains everything.

  5. George Michael is gay?? Oh right. I knew that.

I have the same problem at night. As soon as my head hits the pillow my brain goes into overdrive. It sits there and does nothing all day long and when I want to sleep it decides to get busy. So annoying.

  6. Curse overactive brains! Mine seems to think that 2am is the perfect time to get up and start doing stuff...
